After your abdominal hernia surgery, you may experience some unusual sensations. Here's what you can expect:
Lower abdominal contractures and shoulder pain:
It is possible to feel contractures in the lower abdomen, sometimes accompanied by shoulder pain. These sensations are perfectly normal and are generally due to the surgical technique used, notably laparoscopy. Pain medication should help relieve these symptoms.
Formation of a Seroma or Hematoma:
It's possible that instead of your old hernia, a fluid pocket or hematoma may form. This is called a seroma and is not a recurrence of your hernia. This "little ball" may persist for about a month after the operation. Rest assured, it should subside with time.
Tingling in the testicles:
You may feel a tingling sensation in the testicles on the operated side. These sensations should disappear within a month of the operation.
Genital hematoma:
It is also possible for a hematoma to form in the genitals area. This may resolve within 15 days to 3 weeks of the operation.
However, if you experience severe or persistent pain, or have any concerns about your recovery, do not hesitate to contact your surgeon for further advice.

Most hernia surgeries are outpatient cases, so you'll go home the same day. Some pain and discomfort around the affected area is normal.
Resume daily activities, but with caution.
Complete recovery for most. You can increase the intensity of your physical activities, following your doctor's advice.
